11" x 14", mixed media on paper, attached to wooden board. This piece predates the coronavirus, but it speaks to the artist's love of the desert and her admiration for the scrappy grackle-- and all of the blackbirds she sees in her travels throughout the USA and Canada.
Artist's statement about this body of work: "These pieces were created in the spirit of 'alchemizing fear and outrage.' During this time when our lives are increasingly constricted, I find joy in things we might normally take for granted, like birds and chickens and SPRING! Instead of focusing on the drone of endless disturbing news cycle, the extraordinarily ordinary chicken gets my attention--as well as the often annoying 'scrappy grackle'. Nature is essential for coping with this extraordinary time, one which offers an opportunity to pay closer attention to everything around us."
