Artist statement about the Other Side Collection: "Pyramids are a symbol of secret and lost knowledge, of things unknown. Inverted pyramids are often referred to as a "creation sign" the upper representing inspiration from the heavens and the lower rising up and reaching for the heavens. The Other Side Collection has always been about shifting and dual realities. These pieces are as much about the seen as the unseen. When the idea for the series began to take shape in the summer of 2019, much of the national conversation took place in individual echo chambers nurished by tunnel vision and cultivating divisiveness. At the time, I wanted to say something about the perceptions and adjacent realities. I wanted to create a reminder that things are not always what they appear on the surface and there is always another side that remains unknown. There is always more to the story. While the multifaceted structures continue to represent dualities we can only imagine, as we arrive in spring of 2020, I find that the meaning of the work has shifted along with the radically changing times. Our core reality has shifted in such a profound way that we can no longer see clearly to what the future holds. The new reality we seek remains unseen on the other side, for now."
Artist statement about the cinemagraphs: "Due to current pandemic, I find myself an "artist in residence" here in Manchaca. It seems that this moment while the world is closing down in so many ways, it has opened up and is embracing digital content. So, I've been concentrating on remastering more of my photographic compositions with layers of video.
