Art Gourd with alcohol ink painting, carved cholla texture, turquoise magnesite stone, 6.5" wide x 10.5" high
This piece is part of the "Corona Creations Collection", a group of works created by gallery artists during the pandemic.
Artist's Statement: I, of course, would not wish this virus on anyone, but the gift of time is like no other! I attempt to be a full-time artist, but each week normally brings commitments and responsibilities that have seemingly vanished for this short period of time. So, every day, I get up ready to work on gourds--I can't get enough! This is usually my biggest show time of the year with 5 weekends of shows in 2 months--I call it my Christmas. So, I have been geared up for it for a while and somehow the energy has not subsided! Numerous unfinished gourds and paintings eagerly stare at me daily because everything is at a different stage (or sometimes, I just have to ponder the next step for a while). I have also been taking an online class from an expert teacher that I have not had time for until now--what a treat. A lot of people have been posting about how they don't have any incentive to do anything much less create right now. I totally get that--it is just not affecting me that way. I am an Austin native and am loving the pace of the Austin of my childhood right now (maybe that is contributing to my current creative juices). My heart aches every day as I watch the continued effects of this pandemic. I am so thankful to have my art to envelop me."
